Milk worked on the hotly anticipated second series of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s Good Omens (Amazon/BBC).

Milk was appointed the main VFX vendor with our large team of artists completing over 500 shots on season 2 of Good Omens.

The Opening Sequence

Season 2 starts with the Big Bang. Using virtual production Milk created simplified nebulae imagery to be put on LED screens on-set to allow for interactive in camera lighting on the live action plates of Crowley and Aziraphale. However, the content displayed on the on-set screens was not the finished article, it required months of creative development from our artists to finalise the look for this CG environment. The nebulae were designed using real NASA photography as primary reference, our team then recreated our dynamic FX environment with adapted colour palettes and shapes to enhance their beauty. This environment was composited into over 120 VFX shots for an explosive opening sequence.

Creatures

Throughout the season Milk worked on numerous bits of creature work, from the colourful geckos in episode 2 to the demon tongue in episode 6, and of course animated angel wings. The angel wings belonging to both Aziraphale and Crowley were major assets in the show, featuring heavily during the opening sequence. Although they were made for the Season 1 of Good Omens, Milk modified them to allow for a more complex range of motion required. For season 2 it was a creative decision to have the behaviour of the wings linked very closely to the actors mood and movement within each scene which was a complex and exciting task for our animation team – we were all very happy with the resulting look
